frequently asked questions
Q: Will engraving my Apple product void my warranty?
A:No, engraving is considered cosmetic rather than a modification that would change the behavior or performance of your laptop. Contact your local Apple service company for their policy. Visit the official warranty page for more information: http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/hardware.html.

Q:How does the laser work?
A:On anodized aluminum (like the Nano, Powerbook, Macbook Pro, Iphone, and Ipod Mini) the laser removes the anodized coating to reveal the raw aluminum. On stainless steel (most iPods other than minis), the laser fuses a special treatment to produce a sharp black contrast to the polished stainless steel. On plastics (most laptops and mobile phones) the top layer is removed to reveal the layer below, which is usually a lighter color.

Q: What style of artwork works best?
A: On aluminum and most plastics, the artworks tends to appear lighter than the background, but shifts to a darker tone depending on the angle at which it’s viewed. We recommend high contrast style art (vector, woodcut, pen drawing, etc). On stainless steel, the image is always darker than the background. With this process, complex high contrast images can be engraved with good results.
